September 2017

#GetEmpowered – Sexual assault coverage
This piece will introduce the concept of building a community that doesn’t tolerate casual disrespect or disregard, one that is naturally protective against sexual assault. The feature will show students why small interactions and subtle conversational shifts within their own friend groups are key for preventing sexual violence on their campuses.

Sleep debt
This feature will introduce the concept of sleep debt, provide evidence-based strategies for getting out of it, and suggest prevention techniques to keep it from coming back and to improve sleep hygiene.

Productivity
These three evidence-based productivity systems will help students set themselves up for a productive year from start to finish.

Five 5-ingredient mug meals
This photo feature outlines five simple recipes students can make in their microwaves using healthy, low-cost ingredients, with the goal of reducing financial barriers, time constraints, and confusion when prepping food.

Mindfulness series: Intro to meditation
In this feature, our mindfulness expert Jon Krop provides a simple how-to video to break down the ancient art of mediation.

October 2017

#GetEmpowered – Sexual assault coverage
This feature covers what enthusiastic consent looks like and provides tips on how to safely stop a sexual encounter when one or both partners are not enthusiastically engaged.

Perfectionism
In today’s competitive academic environment, many students struggle with perfectionist tendencies and over-thinking. This piece, informed by a session from the 2017 American College Health Association conference, will introduce common signs of perfectionism, touch on its corresponding effects on academic behavior and emotional health, and provide strategies and coping techniques for dealing with perfectionism in an academic setting.

Alcohol
This bystander guide will provide students with the tips and information they need to help a friend who’s been drinking too much. Additionally, this piece will reinforce previous bystander intervention coverage by reminding students that stepping in and watching out for friends is something they already do.

Roommates
Whether it’s their first-year or their fourth, most students will spend the majority of their college experience sharing their home space with others. In this piece, students share what’s worked, what they’ve learned, and what nightmares they’ve dealt with when it comes to roommates. Experts share conflict resolution strategies and tips for keeping the peace.

Mindfulness series: Energizing morning meditation
Our mindfulness expert guides students in a five-minute morning meditation and shares strategies for energizing and motivating oneself.

November 2017

#GetEmpowered – Sexual assault coverage
This feature will introduce students to bystander intervention techniques they can use in a professional setting and will expand on strategies from our previous bystander coverage. Even in a professional environment, students can use subtle techniques to set the stage for future interactions and take action to build a safer, more supportive community.

Academics
This feature, based on two recent Stanford experiments, introduces students to the concept of metacognition as it applies to study methods. It will provide students with strategies for thinking critically about their study habits, including outlining performance goals, creating a study map based on the most useful resources, and identifying the most effective approach for any given task.

Physical activity
This feature breaks down the science behind four popular workouts: running, yoga, weight lifting, and high intensity interval training. Students and experts tell us what they like and don’t like about each workout, and tips are provided for maximizing benefits and minimizing risks.

Vaping/tobacco
E-cigarettes and vaporizers have become the most commonly used smoking products among young people, according to the CDC. Public health officials continue to debate the relative risks and benefits of these products. This piece outlines some of the interesting facts that we know so far about vaping and e-cigarette use and encourages a harm reduction approach to using more safely for those who are already using.

December 2017

#GetEmpowered – Sexual assault coverage
Students are active participants and administrators in many online communities. This piece will encourage students to participate in their online communities in ways that promote a positive campus culture and will outline strategies for modeling positive behavior and dealing with disrespectful or negative comments in constructive ways. This in turn helps create communities that are protective against sexual violence.

Nutrition
This feature will take a closer look at the available research behind popular diet trends and will encourage students to find sustainable ways to make healthy tweaks to their daily nutrition.

Adulting
Students often enter college, or leave high school, without having fully developed essential life skills that are usually learned outside of a classroom environment. These include making doctor’s appointments, waking up and getting to class on time, budgeting, setting up a schedule, and generally learning to manage themselves and their time without the support of parents or caregivers. This feature will cover some of the basics of being an independent adult and will provide students with actionable and empowering tips for setting up their independence in ways that work for them and their long-term goals.

Vaccines (flu prevention)
This piece will cover how and why to be vaccinated for a variety of vaccine-preventable illnesses, including influenza.

Mindfulness series: How to use mindfulness to calm down in the heat of the moment
This feature will provide mindful strategies for calming down during stressful encounters, particularly those that may come up during the holidays or when surrounded by family.
